Mr. Bob Bryant
Bob Bryant is married to Felice, his supportive and understanding wife of over forty years. They have three married children; Nathan (Christina), Natalie (Matt), and Noel (Kate), with six (6) active and beautiful grandchildren!
Mr. Bryant retired from Katy ISD in the fall of 2015 after a career in public education that spanned over forty-one years. His most recent position was that of serving as Executive Director of Fine Arts in Katy ISD for over fifteen years. Prior to this position he served as Director of Bands and Fine Arts Dept. Chair at Katy HS (17 yrs.). Before his time in Katy ISD, Bob was the Director of Bands in Lamesa, TX (9 yrs.) and Sudan, TX (3 yrs.).
Throughout his 26-year public school band tenure, bands under Mr. Bryant’s direction earned numerous Texas UIL Sweepstakes Awards, as well as earning Superior and Best of Class Awards in music festivals across the country. The Katy HS Marching Band, “That Roarin’ Band from Tigerland”, grew to an annual enrollment of over 400 members during his term as director. Under the baton of Mr. Bryant, the Katy HS Symphonic Band presented a concert at prestigious Carnegie Hall in New York City, NY.
In 2007, Mr. Bryant was named as the Music Director of the Lone Star Symphonic Band. In 2013 this band was named the sole recipient of “The Sudler Silver Scroll Award”, a designation of being an outstanding community band, by The John Philip Sousa Foundation. In the summer of 2016, the Lone Star Symphonic Band was invited by the Texas Bandmasters Association, and they performed a concert for the inaugural “Community Band Day” during the TBA summer conference.
Mr. Bryant was awarded the distinction of “Outstanding Music Educator” by Texas Tech University in 2006 and was named “Texas Music Administrator of the Year” by the Texas Music Administrators Conference (TMAC) for 2007-2008. In 2015, Bob was awarded the “Jacob L. and Sophia Meyer Farb School Bell Award for Lifetime Achievement in Music Education” by the Houston Symphony. Mr. Bryant was recognized by the Texas Bandmasters Association, receiving the “2015 Lifetime Administrator Award” for his work in the support, development and growth of band programs. Bob and Felice were honored for “Remarkable Achievement” by the Texas Tech University School of Music, College of Visual and Performing Arts and served as their keynote speakers during their “Celebrate Success” event in August of 2016. In the fall of 2017, the fortieth (40th) elementary school in Katy ISD opened its doors, designated as “Robert and Felice Bryant Elementary School” by the Katy ISD Board of Trustees.
Bob earned his Bachelor of Music Education degree from Texas Tech University, Lubbock, TX where he studied with Mr. Dean Killion. He received his Master of Music Education also from Texas Tech under the tutelage of Mr. James Sudduth. Mr. Bryant has served as a member of the State Board for the Texas Music Educators Association, continues to serve as an adjudicator for University Interscholastic League and various music competitions.
Bob remains very active in music and arts education. He is the founder and lead at Fine Arts Solutions of Texas, LLC (www.FASTx.org) a consulting firm working with schools, school districts, and communities to insure quality arts opportunities for students and teachers. He is also founder and board president of the Katy Jazz Association, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, to support and promote the Katy Jazz Festival. Bob serves in administrative and advisory roles for various non-profit groups to promote accessibility and enhanced possibilities of arts education for ALL students.
