Bob Bryant

Music Director

Bob Bryant is married to Felice, his supportive and understanding wife of over 40 years. They have three married children, Nathan (Christina), Natalie (Matt), and Noel (Kate) with five (5) active and beautiful grandchildren!

 

Mr. Bryant has recently retired from 41+ years of service in public school education. His most recent position was serving as the Executive Director of Fine Arts for Katy ISD for fifteen-plus (15+) years. Prior to this position, Mr. Bryant served as Director of Bands and Fine Arts Department Chairman at Katy High School for 17 years. Before coming to Katy, he served as Director of Bands in Lamesa, Texas (6 years) and Sudan, Texas (3 years).

 

Throughout his 26-year public school teaching tenure, bands under the direction of Mr. Bryant earned numerous Texas UIL Sweepstakes Awards, by earning Division I (Superior) ratings in marching, concert, and sight reading competitions. The Katy High School Marching Band grew to an annual enrollment of over 400 members during his term as director. Under the baton of Mr. Bryant, the Katy High School Symphonic Band presented a concert at Carnegie Hall in New York City, New York, as well as earning top honors in many concert competitions throughout various states.

 

In 2007 Mr. Bryant was named as the Music Director of the Lone Star Symphonic Band. In 2013 this band was named the sole recipient of “The Sudler Silver Scroll” as an outstanding community band by the John Philip Sousa Association. This past summer, the Lone Star Symphonic Band was invited, and performed a featured concert, for the inaugural “Community Band Day” that was held during the summer convention of the Texas Bandmasters Association.

 

Mr. Bryant was awarded e distinction of “Outstanding Music Educator” by Texas Tech University in 2006 and was named “Texas Music Administrator of the Year” by the Texas Music Administrators Conference (TMAC) for 2007-08. He was also awarded the “2015 Jacob L. and Sophia Meyer Farb School Bell Award for Lifetime Achievement in Music Education” by the Houston Symphony. In July of 2015, Mr. Bryant was awarded the “2015 Lifetime Administrator Award” by the Texas Bandmasters Association. In August of 2016, Bob and Felice were honored for “Remarkable Achievement” by the Texas Tech University School of Music, College of Visual and Performing Arts and served as keynote speakers during their “Celebrate Success” event. In the fall of 2017, Katy ISD will open their 40 elementary school, Robert and Felice Bryant Elementary.

 

Mr. Bryant received his Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas, where he studied with Mr. Dean Killion. He also received the Master of Music Education Degree from Texas Tech University under the tutelage of Mr. James Sudduth. Mr. Bryant has served as a member of the State Board for the Texas Music Educators Association, continues to serve as a member of state committees for TMEA and the Texas Music Administrators Conference. He has served two terms as a member of the Committee on Standards and Performance Practices for TMAA, and is a member of state University Interscholastic League and Texas Education Agency committees pertaining to music education and competition.

 

Bob remains very active in music and arts education. He is the Founder and Board President of the Katy Jazz Association a 501(c)(3) non-profit that supports and promotes the annual Katy Jazz Festival – www.KatyJazzFestival.com and is the Founder and Lead of Fine Arts Solutions of Texas, LLC – www.FASTx.org a consulting firm working with schools, school districts, and municipalities in all the areas of fine arts education. He is an active member of the Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, National Band Association, Texas Music Adjudicators Association, Texas Music Administrators Conference, and the Phi Beta Mu – Alpha Chapter professional band fraternity. He also fulfills a busy schedule as a clinician, adjudicator, and as an advocate for quality arts education and accessibility for ALL students.
